It is argued by some that advertisements are highly successful in encouraging people to purchase products, while others believe that people no longer pay attention to them. I believe that targeted advertisements are more effective in influencing consumers to buy products. Both views, along with my own opinion, will be discussed in this essay.
There are several reasons why many people believe that advertisements play an important role in encouraging consumers to purchase products. One reason is that people are often attracted to products promoted by celebrities they admire, which can lead to a significant increase in sales. For example, when a well-known singer wears an attractive accessory, many of their followers are likely to purchase a similar product from the same brand. This suggests that the popularity of the person promoting the product can have a greater influence than the product itself. Another reason is that advertisements are often placed in the middle of popular content, where they attract viewers’ attention and increase the likelihood of making a purchase.
On the other hand, some people believe that repeated advertisements have the opposite effect. They argue that constantly seeing the same advertisement can create the impression that the product is unnecessary or less valuable. As a result, many viewers skip advertisements during television programmes or develop negative attitudes towards the advertised product. Consequently, companies may waste a large advertising budget without achieving the desired results. Therefore, instead of encouraging consumers to buy a product, excessive advertising may discourage them from making a purchase.
In conclusion, although repeated advertisements can sometimes have a negative impact on consumers, I believe that advertising remains an effective marketing tool. When advertisements are carefully targeted and shown to the right audience at the right time, they can successfully increase product sales and positively influence consumer behaviour.
