Some people argue that advertising is very effective in encouraging consumers to purchase products, while others believe that it has become so common that people no longer notice it. This essay will discuss both views before giving my own opinion.
On the one hand, advertising can be extremely persuasive. Companies use various strategies, such as emotional appeal, celebrity endorsement, and social media marketing, to influence consumer behavior. For example, many brands collaborate with influencers on platforms like Instagram and TikTok to promote their products. When people see their favorite public figures using certain items, they may feel motivated to buy the same products. In addition, advertisements often highlight the benefits of a product and create a sense of urgency through limited-time offers. As a result, consumers may make quick purchasing decisions without carefully considering whether they truly need the item.
On the other hand, some people believe that advertising has become so widespread that it no longer attracts attention. Nowadays, individuals are exposed to advertisements on television, websites, billboards, and mobile applications every day. Because of this constant exposure, many people tend to ignore advertisements or skip them whenever possible. For instance, viewers often use ad-blockers online or fast-forward commercials while watching recorded programs. In my experience, I rarely pay attention to banner ads on websites because they appear too frequently and seem repetitive.
In my opinion, although people may ignore some traditional forms of advertising, it is still highly effective overall, especially through digital platforms. Therefore, advertising continues to play an important role in influencing consumer choices.
