It is said by some people it is necessary for donation become compulsory and individuals should donate a part of their income to charities. From my perspective, this decision could have both advantages and disadvantages.
On the one hand, the first reason that some people think mandatory donation could be beneficial is that it can alleviate poverty. It means that the people of one nation have social responsibility towards residents of that country, who suffer from poverty and other social issues. If the local governments set a law for residents to donate a portion of their income to charities, it would help a societal inequality become more fair. In addition, charitable donations not only help people in need but also people actively participate In wealth redistribution.
On the other hand, there are some reasons that people are against this idea. First of all, by compulsory donation people lose their personal autonomy. It means people should have freedom of choice when it comes to deciding how and when to donate their money. It is much better to encourage people to make volunteer donations , which it would probable generate more social impacts than mandatory donation. Furthermore, forcing people to donate to charities can make difficulties for those who don’t have a high income.
In conclusion, although charitable contributions can make a positive difference in someone’s life, it is not fair to force people to help others by donating. I believe encouraging people is ideal way because people can volunteer donates and have their discretion about their income.
