In this essay, I shall explore the effect of opening up new communication possibilities worldwide via the internet. Currently, the internet has a major impact on society, that is to say, it opens a plethora of options to communicate and make basic life more comfortable.
On the one hand, the Internet provides a connection between people at any time and in any place, which means that society can manage its time much more productively. For example, in 2020, during Covid-19, there were lockdowns around the world, which meant employees could not go to the office, so they worked from their homes using Zoom or Google Meet to have meetings or business conferences. As a result, companies did not lose productivity or break the new regulations. Additionally, people with health problems received more opportunities to work remotely because businesses needed workers who had experience working online.
On the other hand, internet communication often has a dangerous impact on people’s lives. Presently, social media occupies a huge part of a teenager’s life, where they speak with their friends, show their life in pictures and clips, and generally socialise. Moreover, many parents worry that the internet creates socially anxious children who have a problem with natural communication. Furthermore, the internet is an unsecure platform which can escalate mental health problems. For instance, adult men can pretend to be a child and have a friendship with under-18-year-olds.
To conclude, internet communication has made huge progress and even saved the world from economic crisis, claim economists. Also, the Internet provides access to education, employment, and social interaction for people with physical or psychological health conditions. However, online communities need to use these benefits carefully and responsibly, and not be easily deceived.
