There is a view that an individual’s choice of attire can provide much information about his character and background. In this essay I would explain why I wholeheartedly agree with that statement, providing reasons which consolidate my agreement.
Firstly, those who believe that clothes cannot expose much about people’s background, attributing this to the era of globalisation we live in. To illustrate, in many workplaces such as companies, shops, restaurants and various other facilities mostly require a standardised work uniform. Therefore, such a profile could not provide the culture’s identity of individuals. The argument goes that if a person went to a local party, they would probably take in some type of clothes related to their culture, and we thus, in this case only, might know further about their backgrounds.
On the other hand, from my perspective, people in leisure time usually wear attires that fit their body and relate to their culture, given that those who wear some ordinary casual clothes may put on some related accessories, which leads to exposing their identity partially. Additionally, many specifically those born and bred in the countryside, tend to cherish cultural identity through their traditional attire outside of work obligations. Besides that, many nations obligate their employees to wear the traditional appearance during the official working hours. For example, in Arabian Gulf Countries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE, we can see the bankers, clerks and teachers in schools wearing white long loose rope known as ‘Jelabyia’.
In conclusion, it is thought that clothing appearance could not tell more about a person’s character because of the global obligations of work clothes. From my standpoint, this assertion is not entirely accurate because in many nations there are cultural expectations of official governmental facilities.
