Some people argue that individuals should be responsible for saving money for their retirement. From my perspective, I agree with this view in some aspects.
On the one hand, saving for retirement helps people become financially independent, which can reduce the burden on their families. For example, elderly individuals who save for their healthcare, will not rely heavily on other family members if they face health problems. This can reduce the financial stress on their family, especially when medical costs are high. Additionally, financial independence allows retirees to feel more positive. With savings, they do not need to worry about unexpected risks and can make personal dreams come true, such as traveling or taking part in relaxing activities or even running their own businesses.
On the other hand, supporting retired elderly individuals is considered a family responsibility. In many cultures, especially in Asia, caring for elderly parents is considered as a sign of filial piety, which is an extremely valued tradition. This support displays gratitude for the sacrifices parents have made for their children. Furthermore, society should take responsibility to support retired individuals. Many elderly people have spent their lives working and contributing to the community. Retirement benefits, such as pensions, are a reward for their service. Providing benefits for elderly people ensures that they can live comfortably in their later years.
In conclusion, while individuals should save for their retirement to be financially independent, the support of family and society is essential. Personal responsibility and social support can ensure a full and comfortable life for elderly individuals.
