These days, many people believe that the primary aim of advertising is to increase the sales of certain products, which is an effective way to influence the decisions of consumers to buy things, not for their actual needs. I completely agree with this statement, and in this essay, I will support this view with examples.
A number of companies, like Nike, Celine, and many more, use special techniques to encourage customers to purchase their brands, and these manufacturers collaborate with models, singers, or bloggers. For example, Adidas Yeezy was fashion collaboration between American rapper and designer Kanye West and sportswear company Adidas, and these kinds of ads lead people to buy their products to become more fashionable. As a result, many consumers make an emotional purchase rather than a practical one, which can lead people to purchase things they do not require but want to show the status associated with owning a particular product.
Moreover, advertising creates a demand for products that people did not even know they required. Commercials no longer promote products, but lifestyles. They tell us to purchase things merely due to the fact they are fashionable or up-to-date with the image of a successful person. And we buy new gadgets and clothes in order to match this image. Additionally, companies use marketing techniques to convince public to buy more than they require, such as buy-one-get-one-free offers, which may lead to unnecessary buying.
In conclusion, advertisements are a powerful tool for brands, and they can affect a plethora of purchaser decisions, on the contrary they cannot shape what community buy. Modern lifestyles and our real needs are more powerful in this regard.
