Currently, newspapers have lost their popularity. Therefore, many people believe that society does not need printed newspapers. I agree that paper newspapers are no longer needed since it saves forests, reduces pollution, and provides convenience.
Undoubtedly, most people have already shifted to e-media, including online newspapers. People using the internet for following news claim that rather than reading printed newspapers, it is less challenging and more flexible to read online. They do not have to wait for updates and time when they are published, as not all newspapers are daily and can include the detailed information. In addition, printing paper newspapers requires raw materials from nature: trees. If fewer newspapers are printed, it will prevent the deforestation and paper waste. Finally, it takes a great deal of money and time to print newspapers on paper. Studies have shown that printing companies prefer to publish fewer newspapers or magazines due to a decline in sales. Thus, printed newspapers are not necessarily important these days in terms of being less budget-friendly, damaging forests, and being inconvenient.
However, there are certain groups of people who would argue the opposite. Such individuals believe that printing press is a part of culture. Without their existence, specific age groups would suffer and be unaware of happenings in their country as well as around the world. Furthermore, printed newspapers serve the old much more efficiently because they have the same skills as the young while using online platforms to reach information. Hence, printed newspapers are still essential for those who are not technologically savvy.
In conclusion, even though printed newspapers are fundamental in each community, I believe that they are not vitally crucial in the modern era.
