It is often debated whether printed newspapers are still relevant in today’s world, with some arguing that printed newspaper is not important nowadays. While I acknowledge that the relevance of the printed newspaper still exists in developing countries so, I partially agree with the view, as this essay will discuss.
On the one hand, there are several advantages of online newspapers. Firstly, Online newspapers eliminate printing and distribution expenses. For example, people can read all types of updated news instantly using mobile phones. Secondly, online news not only improves business efficiency but also supports e-commerce growth day by day. For instance, entrepreneurs can easily advertise their business through online news advertising and expand their e-commerce business rapidly. Furthermore, online newspaper saves trees at large scale and maintain ecological balance. To illustrate, it reduces paper consumption and mitigates printing-related pollution.
On the other hand, printed newspaper encourages more transparency and reliability than online news. One reason is that newspapers in online spreads a lot of fake news and creates misunderstandings among people. For instance, during political crises or natural disasters, readers often turn to established newspapers for verified information, whereas social media is flooded with unverified claims. In addition, traditional newspaper is more comfortable than online version for older people who struggle with digital technology. The old generations, in particular, may not have the opportunity to get online and therefore continue to rely on traditional formats.
However, digital news is very critical in this modern era. But printed newspapers still may not be fully superfluous especially because of reliability and accessibility of news.
