It is frequently argued that the internet is one of the significant inventions in the world of human communication that makes people closer in relationships, whereas others believe that it tends to make people distant from each other. From my perspective, I believe that the internet connects communities together.
Since the huge spread of the internet in the early 2000s, many people started to use, especially, social media regularly in their daily lives. The more time goes by, the more people begin to use it more often, and that leads to isolation. Moreover, in the US, most students in high school have an average of 3 to 4 or even more hours on social media such as Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and so on. These pupils are more likely to have social anxiety and struggle to make face-to-face interactions in social communities. Therefore, it implies that the internet is making people separate and distant from each other at a slow pace.
On the other hand, the internet clearly connects people across the world. Social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram allow friends and family to stay in touch, even from different countries. People can also join online communities based on shared hobbies or interests. For example, a person living in a small town can find others who share their interest in art or music. Video calls make it possible to see loved ones in real time, no matter the distance.
In conclusion, the internet has had a positive impact on the way people connect. It has broken down barriers and allowed people from all over the world to share ideas and build relationships. Tools such as video calls and social media make it easier to stay close to friends and family.
