Some people think that children should be encouraged to grow creative in their studies in order to experience creative subjects in the form of art and music. They say this encourages children to freely express their inner thoughts, expand their imagination, and diversify their emotional intelligence. There are numerous advantages of undertaking creative skills in order to develop thinking skills and improve capabilities, however, creative skills develop concentration, patience, and creative problem solving. When our society, culture, and economy celebrate creativity and innovation, it is beneficial to encourage and facilitate children’s creativity and divergent thinking early on, to grow and shape children.
By contrast, there are people who think studying art and music does not study the real world; because art and music have little actual surface value because of the minimal career pathways. Moreover, some people say there would be a better idea to study subjects like science, maths and technology; which enables children to create a productive life for themselves in the future.
My opinion is children need to be taught academic, practical knowledge and employable skills and, creativity is equally as important as an indicator of a child’s holistic abilities.At the same time, demand for creative jobs are increasing in Australia. Additionally, many areas of work expect associate or college degrees in visual and performing arts (e.g. musician, artists, or designers to name a few). Overall, there is enough value in the subject i.e. they deserve their place in our school curriculum as we meet our growing creative economy.
