There is a view that there should have the freedom to choose what to wear in the workplace. While appearance can contribute to the development of the company, such as attracting clients and developing strong teamwork within a company, I firmly agree with this opinion because skills and experience play a far more significant role in long-term success.
On the one hand, it is wise to acknowledge the benefits of professional appearance, contributing to a company’s development by attracting customers and making them interested in the company’s products. Human beings are willing to make judgements about people based on their appearance, meaning that they trust whether this person reliable. When employees follow a specific dress policy, they can create a more professional image and strengthen customers’ confidence in the company. Additionally, following a standardized dress code prevents social discrimination among employees. In particular, based on the financial backgrounds and the appearance problems can be greatly reduced. In other words, staff members from both affluent and modest backgrounds can feel equally valued.
On the other hand, it is worth emphasizing that long-term success is based on skills and experience. Employees should prioritize performance over appearance. Regardless of how well employees dress, they cannot contribute to the company’s progress. Therefore, giving employees the potential of freedom is important to create a motivating work environment. Strict rules based on the dress may increase employees’ stress. As a result, workers produce higher quality of work. The sense of freedom contributes to both quality of work and success in the company.
To conclude, however important dress code was for workers to attract clients, I think skills play more crucial role in the development of the company. It means employers should give greater importance to performance rather than looks.
