Students are the asset of every country for millennia. They are the reason of progress in societies. However, some believe that university students should only focus on studying a major which is useful in the future. While, some argue that they should be allowed study whatever they wish. I tend to agree with the second view, and this essay will support my opinion via a discussion of both sides.
In one hand, those argue that students should study the beneficial subject might point to its bright future. They may argue that, since certain subjects, such as science and technology are in high demand, students should not pursue other majors. Consequently, they can make a lot of money due to its well-paid job prospects and abundant employment opportunities. For instance, technology has advanced significantly, and artificial intelligence is destroying many traditional professions while creating new types of jobs. As a result, having a practical and valuable job can significantly affect our future life.
On the other hand, I believe that allowing students to pursue the subjects they are passionate about can lead to greater progress in both their personal lives and society as a whole. Furthermore, because they are passionate about what they do, they are more likely to learn, make greater progress, and achieve success in their field. For example, my father’s job is labor, and he does not like it because his father forced him into it. As a result, he does not feel satisfied and enjoys teaching something to others.
In conclusion, giving students the opportunity to choose their own path of study not only ensures personal growth but also contributes to a more diverse and thriving society. Limiting their choices, however, could hinder their development and restrict the future potential of both individuals and society.
