Many people argued that students of single-sex school gain higher academic achievement than those of a mixed school. While there might be some reason to support that idea, I believe parents should let their children study in mixed school.
On the one hand, the idea of single-sex school is beneficial to some extent. Firstly, boys and girls are different in nature. For example, there maybe literature books that will feature strong heroines or books that will resonate more with girls than boys. The curriculum should be tailored so as to meet the needs and characters of each gender. Secondly, there will be a more relaxed environment. Boys and girls in single-sex school do not have to worry about impressing the opposite sex. Hence, they can focus better during tutorials and stay clear of unnecessary misconducts.
Despite the above mentioned ideas, I believe that co-education is better for students. The first reason is that boys will have the chance to learn how to behave around the opposite sex. Teachers will be able to educate boys to respect women, dismiss gender misconceptions, differentiate between rude and chivalrous manners. In the future, there may lead to a more balanced society where women will be treated as equal to men. At the same time, both genders will gain benefits as they can understand the other gender’s perspectives on various issues. Co-education gives every child the chance to be in an environment that mirrors the real world. Thus, they will be more confident in expressing their views in the presence of the opposite sex, developing a positive self-image, working better in group.
In conclusion, it seems evident that both single-sex schools and mixed schools have their own advantages, but I maintain that co-education is a better choice for preparing children to live in the real world where interpersonal skills such as communication and teamwork are demanded. Therefor, it is advisable that parents should send their children to mixed schools instead of single-sex schools.
