People hold contrasting views regarding whether parents or school is the most appropriate approach to teach children about recycling waste. Supporters of the former viewpoint argue that parents are responsible because they are more connected with their children. Conversely, advocates of the latter perspective believe that schools have a duty to teach students as they have professionals to do so. Although both perspectives have their own merits, I am convinced that schools represent the more practical and sustainable approach.
Those who support the first viewpoint believe that parents teach their children in a better way primarily because mutual understanding between them is strong and children are able to connect with their parents easily. The underlying reason is that since children’s birth, parents are attached to them. This is particularly important because children feel pleasure in acting like their parents. So, if parents show beneficial behavior in front of them, like using methods to recycle wastes, consequently, their children adopt that habit automatically. A clear illustration of this can be found in many houses, where a survey claims that out of 100 houses, 85 houses’ children are acting with good manners because their parents used to. While this argument is convincing, it overlooks the more fundamental role of parents teaching their children.
Nevertheless, supporters of the second viewpoint contend that schools deal better with teaching children because they have expert specific teachers. Unlike the previous approach, this enables students to learn about recycling waste in-depth with various methods and professional teachers in a relevant way. As a result, students clearly understand the methods and benefits of recycling wastes, which motivates them to implement these in their lifestyle. For instance, schools used to conduct awareness programs and teach students how to make different decorative items with waste materials instead of throwing them into the environment. This demonstrates that schools have a better approach to dealing with teaching students. For these reasons, I believe this perspective is considerably more convincing.
In conclusion, although parents’ teaching offers certain short-term advantages, I believe these benefits are outweighed by schools’ teaching about recycling wastes because it provides more comprehensive and long-lasting outcomes. Therefore, I firmly support the latter perspective.
