In recent years, children reading habits and the types of books they should read have become a topic of considerable debate. While some people believe that children should focus only on academic books, others argue that reading for fun is equally significant. In my opinion, I believe that both types of reading are beneficial for children’s overall development.
Firstly, some people argue that children should focus mainly on academic books because these resources could enhance their educational performance like grades. Academic materials give students with crucial knowledge about subject areas like science, mathematics and history ,paving way to comprehend their lessons more efficiently. Moreover, reading academic books can develop analytical and critical- thinking skills,as children need to understand, evaluate and apply the information they learn. For an instance, students who regularly read subject- specific materials may be better prepared for examinations and future studies. Therefore, academic books play a crucial role in children’s educational development.
On the other side, others believe that children should encourage to read books for pleasure because this can benefit their emotional and physical development. Reading enjoyable stories can stimulate children’s creativity and imagination by exposing them to different characters, ideas and situations. Furthermore, recreational reading can help children relax and reduce stress, particularly after spending several hours studying. For an example, Othello and The Secret Garden were among my favourite childhood stories, as reading them allowed me to escape from academic pressure and stimulated my imagination. Therefore, in my viewpoint reading for fun is important for maintaining children’s creativity and emotional wellbeing.
In my opinion, both types of books should be encouraged because they contribute to children’s overall development and help them maintain a healthy balance between education and relaxation.
To sum up, although academic books are essential for developing children’s knowledge and educational skills, reading for pleasure also plays an important role in fostering creativity and reducing stress. Therefore, I believe that children should be encouraged to read both academic and recreational books in order to achieve balanced overall development.
