It is said that instead of reading children’s story books, youngsters should invest their time for other beneficial activities. In my opinion, I totally disagree with this statement due to these following reasons.
Firstly, story books play an important role in nurturing the child’s personality and mindset. Most children’s story books are fairy tales and legends, in which the heroes always get what they deserve whereas the evil people receive harsh punishments for their inhumane actions. For example, a famous fairy tale called “Cinderella” is about a kind-hearted, innocent and hard-working girl called Cinderella who is terribly treated by her stepmother and stepsisters, but eventually finds her happiness with the Prince, to whom her stepsisters want to marry. Owing to the frequent victories of the protagonists, children are inspired to follow the actions of these characters as they desire the love and attention from other people. For instance, the admirable traits of Cinderella and her love for all animals might be an inspiration for youngsters to cherish different species.
Secondly, story books provide youngsters with a wide range of different vocabulary and broaden their knowledge. During the process of reading the story, the young have the opportunity to take in different vocabulary and with the aid of the illustrations, the progress of learning new words becomes more engaging and interesting in comparison with learning through textbooks and through daily conversations. In addition, youngsters can easily gain access to a vast knowledge of the outside world whilst sitting in comfort. The new information is worded in a simple way that is suitable for youngsters to understand and is smoothly combined with the story, making the information more memorisable. For example, a children’s story which has its background in a tropical forest might provide children with insight of the variety of wild animals in the forest without having to physically see and present at that location.
In conclusion, I absolutely disagree with this statement as children’s story books is an excellent tools which help nurture and foster children’s characteristics and supplied them with valuable insight without any inconvenience.
