There are two viewpoints regarding the usage of the Internet and computers for students. While some believe they are useful tools, many argue that physical interactions in schools offer more impactful study strategy. In this essay, I will discuss both views and give my own opinion.
People who are familiar with technology are tend to accept new trends. In terms of students’ study, most of those people argue there is a cheaper and more accessible way to learn and gain knowledge. So, why should we ignore it? They explain that in the past, the only available option for children to study and learn was to enrol in a school, which was expensive for many families. Moreover, the study materials were too generic. On the other hand, computers and the Internet offer a lot of different, free materials. This variety of sources provides a signifcant progress for customizing study, based on each student’s abilities and disabilities. For example, if you feel hard to memorize formulas by looking at textbooks, you can use your laptop to watch a video, relating to that topic, to learn a formula more effectively.
In contrast, some people are against this kind of technology. They think using personal computers and mobile phones disconnect you from real people. For instance, you must have physical communication to strengthen your social skills. But if you keep in touch with your classmates and your teacher by a digital interface, you will get in trouble in the future, because of your weaknesses in social communications.
Personally, I think the Internet is a crucial tool that we must utilize it. I believe advantages that I mentioned previously are highly beneficial for students. And also, to overcome the concerns of to the second group who are against using computers, I would ensure them that there are many mobile applications that can aid us finding people with similar field of study. We can use them to have in-person interaction to practice and learn together. I have been using them frequently and I am highly satisfied with them.
In conclusion, both views make sense. Even those concerns of people who are against this technological trend are understandable. However, I think there are some tools to mitigate those problems, which make the Internet a valuable friend for us.
