Choosing a suitable for learning foreign languages has already become a controversial topic among people around the world. Some individuals claim that children foreign languages should learn when they are quite young, while others say that it is better to study them in secondary school. From my perspective, learning different languages can be effective if children start it at an early age.
Teaching foreign languages to children can be advantageous for them when they start them at a young age due to their youngness, they do have difficulties to learn any foreign languages. Unlike teenagers or young adults whose brain is already filled with a massive amount of information related to other school curricula, children memory capacity can be fresh and eager to learn new things. This accelerates the language learning process. One fact scientifically and psychologically proven that bilingual and multilingual children usually excel in problem-solving and making decisions since during the language learning process, they solve different subject related puzzles and do vocabulary or grammar exercises, encouraging them to think and choose appropriate options. In terms of cognitive and skill development, learning foreign languages is better choice for children at an early age, according to some people.
Others, however, believe that learning foreign languages should be delayed until they begin studying in secondary school because every new language requires a high level of literacy skills, but children who are aged 7 or 8 have some limitations in writing and reading. Yet, those who are already an adolescent or young adult can easily acquire any foreign languages and different structures since their literacy levels are already developed during the previous years in primary school. In contrast to children who face difficulties to master additional languages due to confusion between their native vocabulary and grammatical structures, teenagers have greater opportunities to acquire English or Russian as a secondary language, as they already posses a solid command of their mother tongue. From this viewpoint, it is better to learn new languages later.
In my opinion, children can acquire foreign languages productively if this process begins earlier. o be specific, in an early age, children start studying languages by watching short films, presentations or via visual images, making the learning process more natural. This also encourages them to imitate individuals who play in videos or visuals, prompting them to speak new languages through shadowing or by acting as performers. Over time, they process enables them to speak more fluently and naturally in foreign languages. .
In conclusion, learning foreign languages has its advantages and disadvantages as aforementioned examples suggest for different aged students. However, in my view, it should be learnt at an early age.
