There is ongoing debate about whether the government should ban harmful sports, while some argue that participation is a personal choice. This essay explains why I support the idea of prohibiting these types of sports due to their damaging effects.
On the one hand, people who support the freedom of choice believe that athletes involved in dangerous sports practice extensively and become skilled at taking risks. For instance, Formula 1 drivers are trained to handle high speeds and know how to respond in emergency situations, such as finding the nearest help and escaping from a damaged vehicle. While this training is valid for certain sports, I still believe that allowing people to participate in such activities are not well-thought.
On the other hand, harmful sports should be banned because they are life-threatening and can lead to severe injuries or even death. Moreover, these injuries often require significant medical care, which places a considerable strain on the healthcare system. For example, in some Arab countries, young men frequently engage in street racing at high speeds late at night. As a result, many suffer accidents and end up in hospitals for long periods, needing physical therapy to regain their health.
In conclusion, while some people feel that taking part in dangerous sports is a personal choice and they understand the risks involved, personally, along with many others, believe that these sports should be banned by authorities due to their health risks and the negative impact they have on the healthcare system.
