Band 8+: Some people think that governments should ban dangerous sports. Others, however, think that everyone should have the freedom to do whatever sporting activity they choose. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some people assert that governments ought to ban harmful sports, whereas other people think that it should depend on personal preferences. In this essay, I will discuss both sides and give my personal opinion.

To begin with, banning extreme sports emphasizes public safety and the societal cost of accidents. For example, some extreme sports, such as diving into the sea and bungee jumping, often lead to inherently high risks of severe injuries and even fatalities. Furthermore, this not only endangers participants but also affects their families emotionally and financially. In addition, these injuries require long-term treatment.

On the other hand, engaging in extreme activities often offers a sense of adventure, fulfillment, and personal achievement. Additionally, these sports contribute significantly to local and global economies. Adventure tourism, for instance, could trade necessary equipment, and with training services, could make money. Governments should implement some restrictions rather than banning.

In my point of view, by implementing some regulations, such as enforcing license requirements and ensuring that participants have proper training, we can utilize these sports properly.

To sum up, while banning dangerous sports looks like protection, it overlooks the importance of personal freedom and the potential benefits these sports bring. A more effective way would be to promote safety rules and awareness among participants, which can be beneficial for both individual choice and societal responsibility.
