Some people think, machine translation has reached peaked with develop modern technology and for this reason, students do not need to learn foreign language. But i don’t completely agree this. I think, machine translation no matter how much it develop, knowing foreign language is still important.
Firstly, machine translation is not always accurate. Some complex sentences and contexts don’t right translate through automatic system. Especially, there may be wrongs in expressions related to culture and context. People who are know foreign language can fix this type of wrongs and they can explain their ideas more clearly.
Secondly, learning foreign language develop communication skills. Learning one language not only understand text, the same time it means that connecting with people. For example, one person would like to work abroad or to travel, trusting on machine translation only is not enough. Gesture, intonation, and emtion are also important in live communication, which translation programs cannot fully convey.
Thirdly, knowing foreign language is significante for career. A few international companies demand foreign language skills from workers. Even with automatic translation tools, a person’s ability to speak their native language has advantage in interviews, official documents, and proffesional communication.
In conclusion, development of machine translation does’t eliminate needing of learning foreign language. Knowing foreign language still is important for Communicate accurately and effectively, gain better opportunity and understand different culture. Therefore, students should continue to learn foreign languages.
