Some people think that more money should be spent on bicycles in cities , while others believe that cities should focus on public transport. Although both perspectives have some merit, I support the later ones.
On the one hand, those who support spend money promoting the use of bicycles in cities bring many benefits. One reason for this is to protect the environment. Bicycles are very environmentally friendly because they don’t burn gas and produce smoke. For example, when people ride bicycles to work instead of driving cars or motorbikes, no smoke is released into the air. As a result, it reduces carbon footprint and less air pollution so the air in the cities become cleaner and fresher. Besides, cycling also helps people improve their health as it is one of the most popular sports activities and good for improving people’s health. For instance, people who ride bikes every day stay fit and active so that they can avoid health problems like heart disease or cancer.
On the other hand, supporters of investment in public transport systems argue that it is very important. Firstly, bus and train tickets are very cheap in most cities. This can be explained by the fact that using public transport helps people save a lot of money than personal vehicles. Students or workers can also pay a small amount of money for a bus trip or train trip. Therefore, people can travel to their destination everyday with very low cost. Secondly, a trip on a public transport vehicle such as bus or train can carry hundreds of passengers. For example, a metro train in Ha Noi can carry up to 900 passengers in just one trip. This means that it reduces hundreds of motorbikes on the road and cut down on traffic jams on cities streets.
In conclusion, both options have benefits, bicycles are healthy and eco-friendly, but I believe public transport is more important for big cities than bicycles because it is fast and convenient for everyone. Moreover, it can also solve traffic problems in big cities
