Band 5+: Some people think that parents should limit the hours their children spend watching TV and playing computer games and encourage them to read books instead. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In today’s modern world, people have different views that whether the time of children should be restricted in viewing TV and playing games on play stations or inspiring them to utilise it appropriately in reading books is beneficial or not. While in some ways reading augments several abilities in the little ones, I agree with the thought of constraining their hours in spending time on TV and electronic games.

To commence with, there are several causative factors why the parents should limit the period of watching television programmes and computer games. Primarily, when there are no set rules by the parents for this activity, this will undoubtedly impact the mental and physical growth of their children. (WHY?/HOW?) Owing to the prolonged sitting, the juveniles can become sluggish and lead to many health issues, such as obesity, visual impairment and diabetes. In contrast, if parents guide their children wisely to use their time in reading good content, this will enhance the knowledge of various subjects, and expands their imagination beyond limits. Apparently, it is undeniable to say that appropriate guidance and restrictions of parents will boost the future of children to the pinnacle.

Furthermore, there is no denying fact that the viewers of TV and electronic games consists of various age groups, thus to cater their entertainment requirements, the content of them might contain violent and adult content. This will undeniably lead them in indulging with unlawful actions, aggressive behaviour and consumption of drugs. To cite an example, there are many instances where teenagers after getting inspired from their heroes in action movies use real guns to brag amongst their peers and involve in illegal activities. On the contrary, while imposing a parental control on the TV and video games, parents can encourage their children to make the best use of their time mindfully in reading. As developing the habit of reading in leisure time augments not only the linguistic ability of a person but also vocabulary. Hence, all these benefits stand the parents and children in good stead as far as their augmenting prosperity and excellence are concerned.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that while considering the detrimental effects on the development of the children, parents should limit their time in watching TV and playing computer games and promote reading a variety of books to ignite new vision and wisdom to their mind.

It is true that wild animals are an important part of our ecosystem. However, while some believe that the government should allocate public resources to protecting all wild animals on our planet, I agree with those who feel that we should take action only to preserve wild animals that are on the brink of extinction. People have different views about the repercussions of economic growth. As technology continues to develop, vehicles may operate without drivers. While this trend has several advantages, it also brings with it a number of significant drawbacks.
