These days, an increasing number of people believe that children should be taught about the importance of money at educational institutions. Personally, I totally agree with this school of thought for the following reasons.
First, students’ spending habit would be beneficially affected when they learn lessons about money’s role. Pervasively, inflation has become an issue around the world, weakening people’s purchasing power and degrading the value of currency. Hence, teaching adolescents about finance would render them fully aware of the necessity to save money and avoid inappropriate fiscal expenditure. This, in turn, would ensure their financial stability when entering adulthood, giving them the ability to adapt to sudden changes in their lives.
Another point worth noting is that school’s functionality and capability is reliable enough to deliver financial education for students. It is true that official curriculum involves scientifically proved teaching methods and utilize the expertise of teachers. These patterns of schools make them more dependable than parents at teaching minors about money’s value, which gives children deeper understanding towards the significance of money. What is more, if learning about finance is a compulsory part at school, every student can gain equal and similar knowledge regarding this concept, thereby bringing about widespread effect of teaching about money’s role.
However, it is not to solely depend on school to educate children about money, nor should teachers put great emphasis on finance-related concept. Parents should share the responsibility in delivering knowledge about money for children at home in order to reduce their stress level as dealing with both financial and other academic lessons.
In conclusion, it is advisable to teach students about the importance of money at school, as this helps to raise their awareness about using their budget appropriately and school’s curriculum is also suitably to transmit lessons about money. By striking a balance between theoretical knowledge and practical experience such as money management, children can grow mature and lead an independent life in the future.
