Opinions are divided on whether competitive academic environment would foster children’s abilities to obtain their goals or the opposite would be the case. While I admit that schools nowadays are highly competitive, I contend that these places would encourage children to explore themselves more if an appropriate educational environment were provided.
Granted, it is understandable that educational establishments are increasingly stricter in terms of students’ academic performance mostly due to the expectations from society and their families. As the more modern society is, the more competitive its job market will be in the future, students would therefore be carefully equipped with highly specialized knowledge in order to find high paying jobs in the market. As a result, schools would periodically organize examinations to assess students’ academic performance. This would negatively impacts on children’s both mental and physical health as they must devote all their time and health to those exams in order that they could satisfy other parties’ expectations.
However, I would contend that if youngsters were given a suitable academic environment, they would achieve more in schools. Educational establishments should properly intergrate extracurricular activities into compulsory academic subjects so that students could expose themselves to a wide range of fields. This would probably enable children to explore their hidden talents, which might lead to another achievement rather their academic one. Additionally, parents should positively involve in educating their children by giving useful advice and encouragement rather than forcing them to completely contribute to academic subjects without any praising. For example, parents should give a small reward to their kids if they obtain a high score at schools.
In conclusion, while others might argue that schools are too strict and might impose pressure on students, I assert that those places would foster children’s abilities to gain more if they were provided well-rounded education along with suitable advice and encouragement from their parents.
