While some people believe that schools being too competitive has a negative impact on children, others argue that it motivates children to succeed. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why I believe that a competitive envrionment is important for success in school.
A competitive environment can often lead to students feeling under pressure, if not burn out. This is due to the fact that, in school, students are still young and still developing their brain and mental ability to resist stress and anxiety. Putting them in a such an environment can intensify those feelings, restricting them from succeeding and getting good grades. For example, a study conducted in 2013, showed that pupils being in competitive schools faced more stress and pressure thus resulting in lower grades.
However, some people say that a rigourous environment will encourage children leading to more success. This is a reasonable argument, due to the fact that it can motivate students by making them wanting to get to the same level as their classmates resulting in better results overall. In my experience, being in a competitive school helps me get more motivated and always wanting to do the best I can.
I personnally think that a competitive environment is essential for the success of children in school. Many student suffer from a lack of motivation, procrastination and laziness in their studies. Ambitious surroudings help them overcome these problems and get more productive.
To conclude, school environment is a controversial topic. Some people believe that it should be competitive for the good of students while other belive the opposite. I think it is important due to my personal experience in a competitive school.
