It is supposed that having worldwide news as a school subject is beneficial, while others believe that it is unnecessary for children. In my point of view, although it has some problematic sides, studying international news is vital to develop pupils’ viewpoint.
I believe that there are several reasons why global news should be added into school curriculum. To begin with, teaching it expands the horizon of school children, because they learn how to analyze and react to the actions happening around the World, at the same time it can help them to evaluate sources of media. Another point is that there is relevance of this subject with others, for example, if pupils are aware of international news, it will be easier for them to master subjects such as history, geography or law. It gives opportunity to compare other countries’ financial-social sides with their own country’s. Last but not least, having this subject in the school timetable increases cultural awareness.
Despite having a number of benefits, studying global announcements can be inappropriate for school children according to some aspects. Firstly, curriculum overload is big enough to cope with even without this kind of extra subjects, because it is better for them to pay attention to vital subjects, such as math and physics deeply rather than learning international news. Secondly, the complexity of international issues might be overwhelming for teenagers that they may misunderstand the concepts. Finally, there can be also lack of well-qualified and specialized teachers, or materials to teach this domain, because not all countries have institution and fund to improve this field.
In conclusion, learning international news can be waste of time, but I think it has positive impact on long-term future.
