In some peoples opinion, secondary school pupils should learn global news as one of the school curriculum. However, some people think it squanders valuable school time. But, I think, it would be beneficial from every side, because these enhance children’s perspectives and development.
On the one hand, it is not directly related to academic success. International news is not part of most standardized exams, so focusing on it may distract children from their specialized subjects. For example, spent time for discussing international politics might reduce preparation time for science or math subjects. They can decrease children’s attention for their own subject. If children immerse them, they forget their responsibility for their other subjects. As a consequence, their grades decrease step by step from other subjects. If their scores decrease, their parents and teachers scold them. In some cases, too many scolds can put children to stress. They may do not want to study other subjects. It leads to weakness from other school subjects.
On the other hand, learning about international news enhances global awareness and critical thinking. Exposure to international news helps students understand global issues like climate change, war, politics and economics. For example, learning about climate change globally helps students understand its causes, effects, and how different cultures view the issue. Children learn from this how people can affect to environment, and people’s awareness and carefulness how necessary for these problems. Discussing about nations views can enhance children’s perspectives, because they can learn what is right and what is wrong about climate changes’ affects and consequences from discussing with each other. Also, being aware from climate changes can enhance environment’s condition and prevents pollution to some extent. Overall, learning about international news can be beneficial from many sides.
To sum up, although there are some disadvantages of learning international news, but advantages dominates over disadvantages, because children will be aware from environment’s conditions. And, they want to prevent pollution. So, this can be important to some extent.
