In recent years, there has been an ongoing debate on whether society can benefit more if more citizens choose to learn business instead of history. In my point of view, I agree with this statement to a certain extent and this essay is going to shed light on the reasons and support my viewpoint.
On the one hand, history plays a crucial role in our society as this subject provides knowledge about our own country’s history and the outside world. It teaches us about the changes in different aspects, such as the economic shift, the revolution of a country or wars between regions, that happened in the past, showing the things that create the today’s world. For example, with less people learning history, it is believed that the knowledge about our own country or our cultural signature would gradually disappear among society, leading to a lack of regional pride which forms the power of one country.
On the one hand, there are various advantages that come from choosing business and economic majors. One of the most contributing reasons is that this shift supports the overall economy. With more professionals in the business field, the economy is believed to develop even more rapidly. For example, by studying business, individuals get to contribute ideas, creativity and more practical work to the development of the society’s finance, providing better living quality to citizens. Another reason is that deciding to study business bring personal benefits to individuals as there are limited range of occupations for history-majored while there are several choices for a business-majored student. For example, student who wants to become a archeologist would choose to learn history, however, this specific job requires more than just historic knowledge but also financial support and specialized skills while the main purpose of working is to earn money to pay the expenses, creating financial burdens on employees.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that the benefits that business field can have on society are far more significant than the positive impacts that history can have. However, the roles of both business and history in the society is undeniably crucial so it is best to taking actions in improving both fields regarding the overall development of the society.
