Some individuals believe that adolescents ought to adhere to the advice of older generations, while others argue that it is beneficial for young people to question the perspectives of their elders. This essay will evaluate both viewpoints and illustrate my own opinion.
It is evident that many life lessons, tested and tried by predecessors, significantly contribute to the currently accepted values. Particularly, passed-down virtues such as loyalty, compassion, and honesty have been appreciated by society and integrated into today’s moral codes. In addition, various innovations are developed in scientific professions by utilizing hundreds-year results. It means that accumulated experience from the past generation could exert positive impacts on future works, in terms of saving time, effort, and resources.
However, not every approach could always align with modern life standards, especially when society is continuously evolving. To be more detailed, gender quality is highly emphasized instead of obsolete beliefs such that women are inferior. For example, in administrative bodies of nations, it is not hard to see woman politicians, who hold essential positions. Additionally, the marginalization of minority groups such as the LGBT community and people of color has been strongly reconsidered, which results in a just and civilized society. Moreover, challenging the previous theory in science has led to significant steps to explore state-of-the-art methodologies, introducing opportunities for useful advancements.
In my point of view, undoubtedly past values are advantageous, while re-evaluation is necessary. Generally, when inheriting them, it is better to mindfully determine their relevance. If lessons are still tailored to the present, we should effortlessly embrace them. In contrast, we should modify them to adapt or consider to eliminate them if they are not.
