Band 5+: Some people think that the best way to preserve cultural traditions is to limit the influence of foreign cultures, while others believe that cultural exchange is beneficial for all societies. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, a few people believe that the great method to hold on to our cultural traditions is to have a limit to the influence of forgien cultures. Whereas, others feel that it would have a good cultural exchange and is useful to for the societies.

Many counries have a few ancient cultural traditions which are mainly having some wide range of benifits. Although, only a few people do follow these traditions as they think it’s just an old saying and they want to be mordenized. For instance, an old tradition of watering a Holy Basil plant every morning is no longer been done by most of the people in India. As an ancient cultural tradition in India most of the women prefer to have a Holy Basil plant. Scientists have proved that this plant produces more oxygen. There are a lot of women in my country who are housewife’s and who rarely come out of the house because of their house hold works. Watering this plant daily and spending sometime near it actually helps them to get the pure oxygen. These healthy plants are been replaced by some ordinary plants which are being used as decorative items in many houses. This is actually because of the influence of forgien cultures on India and where people forget their traditions.

On the other hand, a cultural exchange would help the societies a lot. These new cultures get a new perspective in people’s mind and it would allow them to grow. One such example is when the Britishers came to India, they got a new view to the society. Currently, english is our first language in India. I believe, the reason behind this would be the Britishers, who introduced english language to most parts of the country. Cultural exchanges like these actually helped our country to grow by have no language barier if we would like to travel accross the world.

In my opinion, I believe it’s a great opputunity for one to explore various cultures and traditions. If a person has to travel to any other country, due to their job or for higher studies then he would obviously need to get adapted to that culture. Else, it would be really hard for them to survive. For example, In the Asian countries people usually eat rice. Whereas, in most of the forgien cultures more amount of Bread is consumed. In this case, if a person has to survive he’ll have to adjust to the new cusines. If there is a cultural exchange it would be easier to adjust to the food and the new environment.

In conclusion, I support the statement that says, it’s beneficial to get exposed to new cultures. As getting exposed to new culture would let a person have different perspectives. But, at the same time we shouldn’t let go the ancient cultural traditions what we follow since our birth.
