By displaying the crime behaviours and their severe punishment, the potential criminal can be deterented and warned about the consequences they may face when committing a bad activity. For instance, in American TV programmes, many interviews are being conducted in the prison and jail, and they show up the activities and punishments which prisoners need to deal with. Therefore, this approach can remove the intention to conduct criminal behaviours of future offenders and might be a useful way to reduce the criminal rate.
However, there are several detrimental effects to the communities by displaying crime behaviours in the media. This can serve as an instruction for people with bad intentions to become an offender. When explaining particular crime activities in social media, individuals can be provided with a full guide and clear understanding about how the action is being conducted, so they can acquire and imitate the behaviour. As a result, there is a high chance that these people, especially those with intention, are more likely to turn into a potential criminal in the future.
