There used to be an era where the only channel broadcast on national television was Door Darshan. The only content that was available to watch was news and a movie on a weekend. As time passed by, the number of channels increased numerously, changing the type of content that was being shown to people. Some of it being, although fictional, is very violent physically and mentally.
There are several disadvantages to showing unnecessary violence on national television. Content on mass media is majorly followed by people of age between 15 and 35 years. This is a phase of life when a person will be looking for answers to a lot of questions about life. This filthy violence will distract them from their goals, quite easily leading them into dangerous paths of life. Secondly, many individuals derive inspiration from the content that is being seen on television, it’s not surprising if anyone tries to imitate any stunts or scenes being shown and ends up hurting themselves. Lastly, along with the physical impact, we should also think about the mental impacts of these scenes. Prolonged exposure to such content on the media can gradually drive a person into depression or severe trauma.
Showing such content on television has an upside, which is often overshadowed due to its disadvantages. Watching such content is an easy way of keeping ourselves entertained. We have to accept the fact that this is the type of content that brings in large viewership to channels, which in turn provides jobs to millions in the entertainment industry.
In conclusion, I am of the opinion that the impact of such content on television is more negative than a positive one, and it should be reduced as much as possible.
