Without any doubt, journalism has turned out to be a giant business. It largely shapes people’s opinions to what is happening around them. Some people feel that news telecasted on media can have adverse effects on people. I do agree with it to some extent but can not neglect the power it holds in other aspects.
The prime reason why people question the authenticity of news media is due to false news created by the media channels in order to achieve more viewership. More often than not, news are exaggerated to heighten people’s emotions and gain more TRP, which ultimately mislead the viewers and deprives them of accurate and verified information. Secondly, televising news of negative instances such as road accidents, robberies , rapes and murders may make citizens feel unsafe in their own country. This refrains people from stepping out of their houses and visiting public places. As a result, many children and youngsters are not entitled to the freedom that they deserve.
However, it would be unfair to undermine the significance of news media. It the only medium which connects the public with government. The new policies and laws are acted upon knowing the general perspectives and needs of the citizens. Not only this, news media ensures that justice is served to every victim. People can raise their voices again unfair and biased. For example, the Indian rapists involved in ‘Nirbhaya case’ were hanged to death as a result of the pressure led by news channels.
To conclude, although paparazzi spring negative opinions among people on some matter but the positives it has on a larger scale are worth considering.
