Also tourists spend money in a wide range of activities like museums, guided tours, amusements, and transports. This way, tourim itself is a great support for the local economy. Additionaly, we should not underestimate the importance of cultural exchange that comes from getting close to other cultures and their way of living, and represents an enrichement for both tourists and local population.
However, a large number of people stuck in one place can have a destructive impact on the artistic heritage. For istance, it is not rare that ancient buildings with extreme important historical value get damaged directly by unpolite tourists. Also, we are all familiar with contents that show massive amount of garbage around historical sites. It is not only a problem of the local governement, since the increase in transports to sustain a developed tourism industry is directly connected to an increase in air pollution.
In conclusion, a better management of tourists influx and a conscius way of visiting other countries are both essential in educating people to help preserving places instead of concurring in their decay. This said, I strongly believe that the advantages of a well developed tourism industry can lead to an important boost in local economy, and in the end ouweight its drawbacks.
