Band 7+: Some people think that wild animals should not be kept in zoos. Others believe that there are good reasons for having zoos.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Recently, there has been a growing debate among people on whether keeping wild faunas in the zoo is acceptable or not. On one hand, those who advocate for keeping wild animals in the zoo argue that keeping animals in the zoo may offer additional protection, allowing these animals to sustain their lives. On the other hand, others believe that wild animals should live freely in their respective habitats, mainly because of the ethical concern. Although allowing wild animals to live in nature is perceived to be morally acceptable, I firmly believe that keeping these creatures inside of the zoo helps to protect them from extinction from humans’ activities and natural disasters.

To begin with, recent developments through the expansion of urban life has threatened the environment of wild animals. From illegal logging to burning forests for the purpose of expanding or building a new modern city, humans’ activities have impacted their natural habitats. For instance, the population of javanese tigers in Java island plunged because of the government’s initiative to open new modern cities across the island through burning and logging trees. As a result, this policy has gradually eroded the natural habitat of javanese tigers.

Additionally, natural disasters pose a significant threat towards wild animals, especially when it comes to the impact of climate change. Climate change accelerates natural disasters, which can be very detrimental for wild animals. For instance, melting ice in the North pole has threatened the life of polar bears, which rely heavily on ice blocks to live. Hence, as the rise of climate change becomes apparent, it is necessary to relocate wild species from dangerous places to a conservation place, including zoos.

However, from an ethical standpoint, relocating endangered species from their natural habitats to zoos is not widely acceptable, especially among animal enthusiasts. They believe that all species should live and grow in accordance with nature. Nevertheless, this argument can be addressed by ensuring that zoos provide a similar place for every wild animal. Thus, such modifications through technology are becoming more prevalent to be implemented in conservation areas.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that keeping endangered animals in zoos helps to preserve their life from humans’ activities and natural disasters. Nevertheless, some concerns over the ethical part can be reduced through imitating their unique habitats through modifications by technology.
