Band 7+: Some people think that young people should follow the traditions of their society and others think young people should be free to behave as individuals. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Currently, divergent views exist concerning the appropriate conduct of the younger generation in society. Some advocate for adherence to traditional societal norms by teenagers and adolescents, while others espouse individualistic behavior. Personally, I believe that every individual should have the freedom to express their true selves and pursue their unique interests.

On one hand, individuals aged between 16 to 25 possess the cognitive ability to make independent decisions, irrespective of societal expectations and stereotypes. This age group experiences a wide array of emotions due to both biological and psychological changes. For instance, a young person may exhibit optimism one day and pessimism the next. Moreover, with the prevalence of technological advancements and easy access to material possessions, many youths fail to appreciate the value of their belongings, leading to feelings of anxiety and discontent when faced with adversity.

On the other hand, it is crucial to recognize the psychological fragility of young people. While they may not be considered children, they are still in the process of maturation and lack the experience of adulthood. The company they keep significantly influences their behavior and character. For instance, in certain cultures, young individuals are pressured to focus on establishing successful careers and families at an early age. However, is this truly essential when they could be utilizing their youth to explore the world and relish life?

In conclusion, the debate surrounding this issue has persisted over time. Nonetheless, young people should be empowered to express their individuality and should not be constrained by societal expectations dictating their behavior.
