Recently, there has been a debate over whether young generation should step after the society’s rules or they should act on their own. From my perspective, I suppose both approach can be combined to produce the best result for individuals as well as communities. In this essay, I will critically elaborate on both views and present my points.
On the one hand, maintaining the traditional values of the society brings numerous benefits. To begin with, it plays a significant role in preserving the cultural metis of nation. In contemporary world, with cultural exchange and overseas settlement tendency, young individuals may discard their cultural values. If they follow those traditions, for example, organizing customary festivities annually, they can help enhancing the tradition preservation and the significance of values. Once the merits kept, they can promote the beauty of those traditions with international friends, which can be a driving force for tourism. Moreover, the practices can also create the connection among members in the families and among households in community. For example, the traditions of visiting temples at Tet of Vietnamese has created the connection among generations, offspring with ancestors as well as the whole society altogether. Once residents of a country are connected, they can boost the unite of the whole nation.
On the other hand, the need for freedom for individual behavior can not be underestimated. First and foremost, it enhances the innovations of the society. If youthful persons merely follow the road of the seniors, they will be left behind the time. In this evolving modern world, there is no denying that revolutionary steps are essential. Additionally, the existence of outdated customs in this era is inevitable. For example, prejudice about the roles of men and women in the household remains a growing concern among the public. If young generation still accept this outlook, both women and men will be baffled to show their competence and the gender inequality will be become more alarming.
In conclusion, both sides offer merits, however, I think their importance is equal and all of them should be given the priority. Therefore, not only do young generation inherit the beautiful traditions, but they also make progress for the society.
