In the current era of technology, communication between countries has increased immensely in every aspect, including business and culture. This surge in communication can have some positive as well as negative impacts on different countries. In my point of view, the positive changes overshadow the negative ones in this regard.
On one hand, the increase in contact between countries may impose a great threat on the national uniqueness of a country. This is true especially for underdeveloped countries, where the citizens always look up to having a better lifestyle. If people are presented with better business opportunities that are influenced by other countries, traditional businesses will decline. Additionally, social values will also change as people have a natural tendency to follow others. For instance, handmade musical instruments as well as national songs in Bangladesh are seeing a decline as these are replaced by guitars and rock music, respectively.
On the other hand, as communication between countries builds up, opportunities also increase. When jobs and businesses boost, the economy also flows well, and as a result, people can live better lives. Also, when people celebrate cultural programs of another country, the bond between citizens of those countries also tightens. For example, celebrating Valentine’s Day is comparatively new in Bangladesh, but the day surely boosts people’s morale. Subsequently, the citizens also celebrate the coming of spring as a traditional celebration, which is the day after Valentine’s Day.
To summarize, increasing contact between countries may impose some bad effects on national identity, but if people are sincere, it will bring positive effects on society.
