In the past decades, disciplining a toddler using excessive force was considered normal, but due to changing parental styles and dynamics, it has lessened. From my perspective, I contend that the force to punish youngsters is immoral and harsh. In this essay, we will dive into both the positive and negative sides of this punishment.
On one hand, physical force has been proven to be effective in disciplining children from becoming juveniles. It results in the child behaving nicely and has positive impacts on their academics and behaviors. A study conducted by a correctional facility in the United States of America concluded that disciplining a child has decreased the chances of them turning into juveniles.
On the other hand, hitting children has proven to affect them in the long run in the form of depression, attachment and resentment issues with parental figures, and trust issues. In many cases, they end up revolting against their parents and getting involved in crime. Also, due to such acts, the child may potentially grow up to be a pathological liar, which in turn hinders their growth and thinking process. Whereas, parents embracing a calm manner allow them to explore several prospects for themselves. For instance, a study conducted by psychologists concluded that 70% of criminals were abused by their guardians during their developmental period.
In conclusion, punishing toddlers is effective in nature but also has its drawbacks, like depression and resentment toward their guardians. Therefore, I strongly believe that treating toddlers harshly is inappropriate.
