It has been a question since ages whether Earth is the only planet with living beings in the entire solar system. To answer this question, many organizations such as NASA are continuously involved in researching life outside of our planet. I believe that the government should spend money on conducting various research and experiments to answer this question.
The revenue invested in looking for life on other planets might turn out to be fruitful. If there really exists life outside of Earth, it would help us increase our technological potential to a greater extent. Observation or interaction with life on other planets will bring into picture new possibilities and will lead to us exploring new lifestyles and technologies that we previously could not imagine.
However, it is true that there are many problems on our own planet that need to be addressed. A higher amount of money should be spent on the existing issues. Searching for life on other planets is associated with an uncertainty which may or may not yield results. This is why it is important that problems we have on Earth are given a higher priority and the necessary amount needed for it should not be compromised.
I strongly believe that any answers regarding extraterrestrial beings will allow us to solve a lot of issues that exist on Earth as it will bring new knowledge that we lack. If there are living conditions on planets other than Earth, this also opens up the possibility of inter-planet traveling. Due to rising global warming, climatic changes and other natural calamities, there might be a day when life on Earth might become impossible. During those times, humans will have an option of saving themselves if there exists proof that life can be possible on other planets as well.
In conclusion, while it is essential that the government spends money on the problems that already exist on Earth, in my opinion, it is worth spending on research and development for searching for life on other planets.
