Nowadays, an increasing number of people are concerned that funds allocated from the public for human survival needs should be invested in other planets, but other people believe they should be spent on our current living conditions, as there are many obstacles we face on our present planet. I believe that the adequate use of money is to invest it in tackling the Earth’s problems.
On the one hand, it can be argued that there are two clear benefits: to begin with, people who hold opinions about financial use on other asteroids are considering the consequences of coming years due to the Earth’s current situation. The fact is that our planet is becoming worse due to human carelessness, as people are adopting habits detrimental to our Earth. Private vehicles, for example, exacerbate our environment by emitting harmful gases, which might be convenient for humans to travel from one place to another but spoil our environment. Consequently, current living planet conditions will no longer be suitable for life, and we will have to migrate to another planet to survive.
On the other hand, I am of the opinion that it is undeniably true that the cost of space exploration is too expensive and might fail. Firstly, the quest for knowledge and understanding of our place in the universe is a fundamental aspect of human nature. This curiosity, coupled with the potential for scientific breakthroughs, justifies continued investment in the search for extraterrestrial life. Secondly, to have a good return on investment, allocating a budget to solve social problems like education and health care is more important. To be more specific, the government should spend money to improve education and health care quality, such as building new schools and new hospitals in rural areas, giving scholarships to students in isolated areas to study in the city, and issuing free health care insurance for low-income families.
In conclusion, although I acknowledge that there are reasons for both sides, I strongly believe that the government should not allocate a budget to explore life on other planets, as there are many urgent social issues that it needs to address. A balance should be struck between these two to achieve the best outcome.
