Some people believe that the best way to deal with public health issues is to invest in developing new medicines, while others say that promoting a healthy lifestyle is more beneficial. Although new medicines might cope with various diseases, I believe that boosting a healthy lifestyle lets governments invent in other public issues, such as education.
New medicines might become a new remedy for various illnesses because there are many undiscovered diseases around the world. It also can avoid spreading contagious disease. For example, in 2020, COVID-19 caused a serious pandemic in many countries. Many people suffered from this disease, and some people died because they did not have an exact medicine to deal with this. If there were more effective medicines, they could have coped with this happens. However, I disagree with this idea because I think that avoiding getting diseases is more important.
On the other hand, promoting a healthy lifestyle lets the state invest in other public issues, such as education. This is because improving a lifestyle leads to decrease in the number of patients; therefore, the authorities can allocate their budget in education instead. For instance, the government in Tokyo promoted successfully a healthy lifestyle to its local people, and it achieved to decline in expenditure of public health. As a result, they can spend their money on developing education systems. I believe that this is a more effective way to tackle public health problems because there are more advantages than developing new medicines.
In conclusion, although new medicines can deal with various illnesses directly, I believe that boosting a healthy lifestyle is more effective way to tackle public health issues because governments enable to improve other public problems.
