Nowadays, instead of going to university some graduating students choose to travel or work for a certain time. While it could be beneficial to travel or work rather than heading straight to university, it also has some drawbacks.
There are two major benefits of travelling or working instead of graduating straight to university. Firstly, by exploring the world, students graduated from school may develop their general knowledge and improve communication skills. This is mainly because, after traveling around the world, graduates will learn about different countries’ traditions, culture and cuisine. This will help them to better understand the world. Also, students will improve their social and communication skills after talking to people from different nations. Another advantage is that it may also develop students’ work experience and help them in the future. By finding a suitable job, students may understand the process and the importance of studying hard, in order to get a promotion. For instance, if newly graduated students apply for a job they like they will be more likely to become disciplined and focused on their tasks.
On the other hand, there are certain drawbacks of not heading straight to university, after graduating from school. One of the disadvantages is that people who choose traveling or work over university are less likely to build successful careers. This is mainly due to a lack of experience. Even though they can get better experience while working instead of going to university, most of the students will not be able to work steadily without a specific education.
The second negative is that students who have recently graduated from school and decide to travel or work will have fewer chances to get a highly paid job in the future. As they do not have enough education, graduates are less likely to get a good job. For example, if graduates choose to spend their time travelling or working, they will waste their time, as in this period they could have gotten a lot of useful information in university.
To sum up, although travelling or working after leaving school can improve general knowledge and communication skills, it also damages your career and as a result students will be less educated.
