Many people argue that some school leavers choose to travel or work for a period of time instead of going directly to university. In this essay, I will analyse the advantages and disadvantages of this trend before proposing my own perspective on this matter.
On the one hand, spending a period of time traveling and working offers several drawbacks. To begin with, it is difficult to absorb knowledge without formal instructions. Sometimes, students misunderstand the realistic meaning, which may impede them from acquiring sophisticated concepts. Without a doubt, they need guidance from teachers who can point out and adjust mistakes appropriately. Additionally, learners easily get into bad habits. Individuals often are influenced by their environment, especially something related to money. If students are paid a substantial amount of money, they tend to drop out of school and continue working. Even, they are manipulated by peers to commit crimes, leading to the detrimental insight in the young generation. As a result, students may find it challenging to return to school.
On the other hand, it is clear that the benefits of this phenomenon outweigh. One of the main positive aspects is receiving practical skills. Some people make use of their journey to discovery and experience unique and extraordinary countries around the world. Obviously, students can connect with locals and immerse themselves in trivial life. This activity not only helps them get away from worry to look back and navigate their life but also improves communication skills and independence. Consequently, learners who are exposed to distinct culture and identity in person can study better by applying these essential skills. Another noteworthy factor is earning money. Some students struggle with balancing between studying and work. In some cases they will be under stress if too much workload and assignments come at the same time. Therefore, making enough money after going to university is very crucial, which allows students to focus on studying effectively.
To sum up, while going to university directly can be disadvantageous in certain situations, I subscribe to the idea that there are more desirable upsides which should be acknowledged.
