However, I believe that it is just a plot of science fiction film that does not provide a rationale. I believe that if we thought only about negative aspects of any research, it would not not bring us to scientific breakthroughs in Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry or Physics. Everything new can bear the risk, even if it is thought and planned carefully.
On the other hand, communication with other creatures may boost and revolutionize the world we have. Information that we can get from other lives may serve as a great advance in the space realm. There is no sense to worry unless we do careless steps. For example, Neil Armstrong stepping first on the surface of the moon said that it was a giant leap for the mankind. I take the view that we should find safe ways to communicate with other beings because through collaboration scientists may find keys to unsolved space mysteries.
