It is extremely important for a school to be able to guage that their students are well fit and healthy in order to perform well academically. Physical education and having sports as a curriculum is a good way to ensure that all all school students are capable to perform physical activities along with their usual school classes.
I believe that having sports as a cirriculum for students of most ages should be a must for all schools. Having sport classes can be a time for some pupils who may not be able to do well in other classes to come and show their abilities and capability to do well. Having sports may also encourage teamwork and cameradie among students, building trusts and potentially even creating new friendships. To my experience, having sports classes in school was the time where me and my friends were able to briefly forget about some hardships in classes, and upcoming work that had to be due. I also see that having sport classes has a chance of making some people realize their passion for different sports, which could serve as a basis for what they might want to become or have a carreer as in the future.
However, I see that there are also some extents to where I could support this statement. For one, I can see from my own experience that the overall competitiveness of sports classes in school can create an overall negative impact upon students who would not perform as well or do not have a passion in doing sports, which can leave them feeling left out or not immersed in the class.
Overall, I think that sports are important for developing a student’s physical skills. But, its competitive nature may leave some students with a bad association with it and feel unmotivated to participate in it.
