Cooperation is one of the key virtues essential in our day-to-day interaction. I completely agree that the best way to teach children to cooperate is through team sports at school. Sports plays a vital role in shaping a person’s behavior and teaches a lot of characteristics that one must possess including cooperation.
Children learn quickly through fun activities like sports. When a child is engrossed in playing any sport, he will not only enjoy the game, but will also try to mingle with his peers. Children will learn to share with their friends during a game, whether it is a ball or a badminton racket.
Through games like relay races, children will be paired in teams, and they have to cooperate with their teammates in order to win. This will further enhance the spirit of brotherhood and sportsmanship among the children. When children engage in sport activities, they have the same goals which will further increase their connection with their team players.
If their team wins, then they will celebrate together and if their team loses they will console each other and congratulate the winning team. During any sport if a child gets hurt or if there is a spat between two kids then the whole team members will join in to help the kid and settle the fight.
In my personal experience, my younger brother is a quite boy who is very shy and an introvert. On one fine day I took him to the park where there were many competitions being held. I coaxed him into participating but after just an hour, he brought his 4 new friends. He had never made any friends at school hence, this was quite suprising to me. Sports teaches a lot of things including cooperation, competitiveness, determination, practice and sportsmanship.
