Wealth and material possessions are often the benchmarks of success. In my opinion, affluence can be the most accurate measure of success. Apart from that, having a harmonious family can also be a measure of how successful a person is.
I strongly contend that wealth can dictate whether a person succeeds or not. It is generally true that the pathway to becoming wealthy involves a lot of trials and errors. However, it is a person’s inner resilience and perseverance that may drive them to strive for the betterment of themselves in the face of any setbacks. Therefore, I believe that once a person is considered affluent, it is just a matter of time before they can accomplish anything they aspire to thanks to their persistence, which ultimately translates into the definition of a successful person. The case of J. K. Rowling can be an illuminating example for this, as she revealed that without her dogged tenacity to become an acclaimed writer, she would have ceased writing immediately after her legendary work ‘Harry Potter’ was rejected.
In addition to wealth, having a close-knit family may also define a person’s degree of success. In this day and age, not only has the development of technology widened the generation gap, but it has also reduced the quality time that family members can spend with one another, somehow rendering families dysfunctional. Having a loving home, however, means that amidst this fast-paced life, one can still find time to gather around with their next of kin, communicate and sympathise with them, an elusive opportunity for many modern members of society that, when seized, can also define a successful person.
In conclusion, I completely maintain that wealth and what you own defines your success; failing that, having a harmonious family can also be an indicator of how successful a person is.
